It was October 29, 1929 when this day in the United States got the name of Black Tuesday because of the darkness that had set into their lives. The Great Depression took place until 1939, and it was during those ten years millions of Americans lost their jobs and the rate of unemployment hit the highest it has ever been. Families were compelled to sell their homes, belongings and did not make enough money to afford enough food. The movie Cinderella Man (2005) by Ron Howard, is based on the true story of James J. Braddock, famous boxer, who had it all before the Great Depression.

He interacts with his family and he is seen as a good father, friend, and son. Oscar is a person people can relate to and is someone that you see be loyal and a good person, regardless of his race, which he was identified by and then brutally, attacked for. The use of mise-en-scene in the opening clip of the film with the actual footage of what happened at the Fruitvale Station foreshadows how the film is going to end. This creates your feelings to grow as that the end of the film approaches that makes you not want Oscar to go to the train station because you know how it is going to end. The film started how it was going to end, but starting with the actual footage of the situation makes you pay more attention throughout the movie on why Oscar is more than just the stereotype that follows his race, and you don’t want him to have to go through that scenario because you have seen Oscar be more than what was assumed of him by the police.

In the novel, As I lay dying by William Faulkner, the Bundren family go through a mental journey of loss and death of their mother later to go on a physical journey to bury their mother. To the conclusion of any novel, many have an opinion on what is much happy or not a happy ending. In the case of the ending to As I lay dying, include no real burial of how the mother wanted, which was the point of the physical journey in the first place, secrets comes out, one of the five the siblings gets taken away, and many are left with unfinished business, was not a happy at all for most of the characters. The movie “Ever After” by Andy Tennant, and The short story Cinderella by Perrault, are both very different takes on the story of Cinderella. Perrault’s version of the story is the story that most of us have grown up with. It’s captivating and magical, but also it’s very one-dimensional, with a “magic pumpkin” and a “fairy godmother”. While, Tennant’s version is by far more realistic in nature, there is no magic pumpkin, but there is a prince who becomes her husband, an evil stepmother, and a pretty, kind hearted girl who slaves away doing as her stepmother demands. The “fairy godmother” does not randomly appear from no where, in “Ever After”, instead she is replaced by the great inventor Leonardo Da Vinic.

The vast majority of their movie are targeting kids, kids under the age of 15, who are unbeknownst to the hidden messages about the movie(s) they’re watching.
