Growing up in a poor Pakistani family, I have seen and experienced different types of suffering and pain first hand. This has made me very empathetic to the needs of others. When I migrated to the United States, I was alone in a very different world. Fortunately I am very self-driven and believe in the value of hard work. I was selected for Masters of Public health and a scholarship at the University of North Texas. I managed to learn very quickly, find good friends and I met my soul mate. During my service in the United States Army for the last 3 years I have had an opportunity to shadow some of the best physicians in the United States. Majority of these physicians are graduates of the Osteopathic School of Medicine. Through them I came to learn about the progressive field of osteopathic medicine. I was surprised by their holistic approach to patient care, it is more effective than what I learned from an allopathic school of medicine in Pakistan. It also demands a more comprehensive approach to look at the whole person. I noticed an excellent speed of recovery in patients when osteopathic physicians were employing their osteopathic manipulate techniques, and their hands on diagnosis. My fascination with manipulate techniques continues to grow and I have decided to work towards learning the osteopathic approach of medicine and techniques from my mentors. My senior DO physician encouraged me. However, Osteopathic medicine cannot be learned by shadowing. It requires dedication and hard work under the mentorship of a highly qualified and experienced faculty that I wish to find in NYIT school of Osteopathic
