Follicle Stimulating Hormone Increases Risk of Osteoporosis in Postmenopausal Women

Osteoporosis is the loss of bone at a higher rate than what the body can form it. This can effect any one, but it is most common it Caucasian and Chinese women after menopause. This is a major problem for this group of people, a simple fall could break a hip or ribs, which could cause more problems. A study was performed on the effects of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) on osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. 248 Chinese women were recruited and their FSH levels and estrogen level were taken with an RIA, a scan was done to measure bone density of their forearm, and this information was then computed to determine what it would be in the future with age

One with 128 recruits, the osteoporosis group. The other 120 recruits, the non-osteoporosis group. With increased age FSH and luteinizing hormone (LH) increased and bone mineral density (BMD) and estradiol (E2 ) decreased. This study found that FSH significantly increased in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis compared with women of with no osteoporosis. Which lead them to believe FSH may be associated with postmenopausal osteoporosis. This patient was stubborn, hard- headed, and wanted things her way. This patient was also about 85 lbs soaking wet, she was frail, she had a hunched back, and bedsores because the pressure on her coccyx from no fat and a hunched back. This patient did not want to believe she was frail. The patient told me a story about a fall she had.
