From Othello, evaluate the character OTHELLO for the themes of pride, jealousy and love.
Othello is one of the leading and main characters of the play. He is an eloquent speaker and holds the position of general in the army of Venice. He is very successful in his career and owns very good military skill, but, his foreign origin keeps him aside from those around him. He is fickle minded; although, he possesses a deep rooted love for his wife, he gets influenced by Lago. Lago's shrewdness manipulates Othello's love and changes it to hatred by proving his wife to be unfaithful with him (Draper, 1966). Moved by jealousy and hatred, Othello kills his lovely wife in her bed, but, he soon started mourning over her death. …show more content…

But, she later found her life to be miserable. She is an introvert and only shares her secret with her friend Judge Brack. She has the ability to be calm from outside. She can easily work upon others to satisfy her needs and inner feelings. In the end, one can find Hedda losing control over her; and finally, she ends her life in misery to gain autonomy (McLeish, 1995). She has an aimless desire for liberty and is unpredictable. She is often seen playing with her father's pistol (“MRS. ELVSTED, He said that when they parted, she threatened to shoot him with a pistol.”). She depicts a character that grief has taken over and is constantly working to weaken her strong traits. She is one of the central characters of the play with a biased love for her family.
