William Shakespeare stands known for his conventional and dramatic style play. Which is exactly what stood delivered in Othello demonstrating how jealousy, lies, and deception can end fatally. Iago feels hatred towards Othello because he gave Cassio the position of Lieutenant and he feels that he stayed further qualified than Cassio. Another reason Iago holds anger towards Othello existed for the reason that he was a Moor, however still received additional respect than him. In addition, the rumors of Othello sleeping with Iago’s wife seemed to be quite unsettling for him even though there was no proof. Lastly, Iago just seemed to relish being foul. Jealousy is comparable as a monster or cancer strong, hateful, and aggressive. Here Iago expresses his anger towards Othello for choosing Cassio, which does not have the experience that Iago has, therefore, making Iago further qualified for the position of Lieutenant: “One Michael Cassio, a Florentine, A fellow almost damned in a fair wife, that never set a squadron in the field, Nor the division of battle knows, More spinister unless the bookish theorick, wherein the tongued consuls can propose, as masterly as he. The decision to make Cassio Lieutenant over Iago sparked a jealousy in Iago leading to envy and hatred towards Othello. Jealousy creates turmoil and mental destruction in people. Othello was insecure because of his color regardless of the respect he received by his people. This allowed trickery to take place from Iago. He struggles fighting his love and trust in Desdemona with every lie said to him by Iago. Othello’s inability to keep faith and trust in Desdemona’s relationship with him ruins him. The term Othello Syndrome was actually created from William Shakespeare’s tragedy Othello. “Othello syndrome is a psychotic disorder characterized by delusion of infidelity or jealousy; it often occurs in the context of medical, psychiatric, or neurological disorders” (Dangerous Passion, Psychiatry, and Clinical Neurosciences). Almost daily, a new story is aired over a jealous boyfriend/girlfriend, spouse, or ex that has murdered someone over his or her beliefs of him or her being unfaithful. Not only do they kill that one person but also they have killed children or other people in the moment of rage. Jealousy is a plague that overcomes people and leads them to become deceitful, and capable of hurting the people they say they love. Jealousy has not been controlled or slowed down overtime. The power that it has to control people and alter their state of mind is dangerous.
