During the years of 1580-81, the Mughal, Ottoman and Habsburg empires considered themselves to be involved in an ‘interimperial rivalry’ . These agrarian empires held fundamental differences in terms of their contributions and their role in the world during the period of 1500 to 1851. However they were all in effect short lived as Empires by 1851.The world in 1520s saw the Mughals rule over Northern India however that changed as it ended in the late 1800s. The Mughal Empire held substantial differences to that of the Ottoman and Habsburg empires. One being that during the seventeenth and eighteenth century, there was evidence of agrarian expansion which was accompanied by steady population growth. Thus showing that the Ottoman Empire at this time in the world was thriving and heading towards greatness in effect. This expansion was evident as in the early 1500s the estimated population of the Ottoman Empire was approximately 17million which then increased to around 25million by the end of the sixteenth century. With this the ottomans were at the same level as one their rivals, the Habsburg Empire which had around 20million by the end of the sixteenth century a swell. The Ottoman Empire faced a number of economic and social problems which caused them to fall behind in this race. These problems being the transformation of international markets and also growing interest and direction in commercial agriculture, as well as regional and religious differences that were present during the late seventeenth century. Furthermore, it is argued that in the late seventeenth century, the regions under the rule of the Habsburg Empire experienced a level of progression which could be said to have been more than that of the metropolis. However the enormous cost of the interimperial wars during the course of the seventeenth century as well as the decrease in the native population of the Americas in the Habsburgs domain could have contributed to this forthcoming
