I believe that as a child and possibly even as a teenager, our identity comes from our culture, however as we mature our identity becomes our own. Much of one’s identity is found through experience; we discover ourselves and how and where we feel comfortable through experiencing where we don’t feel comfortable, which takes time. We can also adopt factors of an identity from interests and places that we find, eg. a certain fashion style or a sense of humour, which takes time as well. Also, when we are young, we are almost entirely controlled and influenced by not only our parents but everyone around us (siblings, teachers, friends etc.), and therefore our identity may be trapped within a bubble created by them.
