MILLERSBURG — The second in the Holmes County Historical Society's “Our Town” series, a July 21 program focusing on the Glenmont area, will kick off the society's summer schedule. Speakers will share “a fascinating look at the rich history of the area” during a 7 p.m. presentation to be held in the Glenmont School gymnasium. The program, to include memorabilia and photos, will be followed by a time of audience participation, during which the public is invited to share stories and facts. Locals working on the program are Larry Purdy, Lyle Gray, Mary Tipton and Debbie (Weaver) Kline. “Our presenters are experts in the history of Glenmont, as they grew up in the area and know many stories and facts,” according to historical society Executive Director Mark Boley, adding, “We encourage all Glenmont residents to attend and anyone in the Holmes County area interested in …show more content…
“It is a commitment to the residence of Holmes County to bring history direct to them in their community,” he said, promising a “fascinating evening of history, sharing and fun.” By getting into the county's smaller communities, he said, the society is fulfilling its mission of educational outreach, while helping to make richer its own historical records thanks to the sharing of stories by the public. “The fun part is opening it up to discussion among people who may not otherwise travel to us. And, it helps us build our archives on that community. It's a two-way street,” he said. A surprise awaits the first 200 people through the doors,” said Boley, hinting, “You will be able to take home a bit of Glenmont history.” Summer programming will continue on Aug. 18 with the fourth installment of the popular “Unusual and Mysterious” series. To be held at 7 p.m. in the West Holmes Middle School Little Theater, discussion topics will include the Murray Tunnel and the Glenmont Monkey
