As astronauts have spent more time in space, the scientific community has become more aware of the dangers of a prolonged amount of time in space on the human body. In order to ensure the safety of astronauts spending a large amount of time above and beyond the Earth’s mesosphere, it is important to fully understand the potential dangers of prolonged exposure to outer space environments and generate a solution to these problems. Therefore, this research study aims to examine such risks in order to provide a basis to which further research can be aimed to overcome these detriments. This study includes an examination of the health risks posed to the human body in an outer space environment, with a main focus on the effects of microgravity on humans. This research study aims to create a more comprehensive list of the detrimental effects of prolonged exposure to an outer space environment in order to provide further researchers and scientists an idea of the major risks that need to be overcome in order to provide a higher chance of safety for astronauts spending a prolonged period of time in space.

This increased difficulty makes it much easier for the bone to fracture (NASA 2004), which would be a significant danger to an astronaut on a foreign celestial body, away from traditional hospitals and doctors. Such an injury could prove to be compromising to a long-term mission, and as such should be
