Parallel Between Opposites Thesis Statement- In Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly, the main protagonist, Victor, sees aspects of his own persona reflected in the image of the Creature.
No matter who you are, at one point in your life you will find yourself staring into what you thought was the opposite of you and it later turns out to be the mirror image of you. For Victor it was upon the creation of the Creature; he grew so scared of what he had done and therefore become he fled the scene. For the Creature, it was upon the realization that when he kills and follows he is not better than the one person he vowed to destroy. Victor’s dream and admirations was to infuse life into a lifeless Creature. Victor believes he is above all else, that he must be the one that can relate with and be G-d. Victor and the Creature both share that common bond: to be the final answer. In Victor’s case it is to make the impossible possible. In the the Creature’s case it is to be the judge, jury, and executioner. Later in the book the Creature finds himself in great happiness: “I grasped his throat to silence him, and in a moment he lay dead at my feet. I gazed on my victim, and my heart swelled with exultation and hellish triumph; clapping my hands” (Shelly, 102). The Creatures G-d complex continues with the happiness of a murder. Additionally, in both the Creature and Victors moment of G-d the use the words “lay at my feet”. This symbolizes how Victor and the Creature believe that everyone else scared and completely submissive to them. Therefore, there is a common shared aspiration and hopefulness to be
