BOOK XIV JOHN 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Literally it reads, For thus God loved (aorist tense of agapao) the world with the result He gave (aorist tense) His only Son with the purpose that everyone who is believing in him perishes not (aorist subjunctive middle) but has eternal life (present subjunctive). You do not obtain eternal life because you were a good person, performing occasional good deeds, who did not bother with the church because it is full of hypocrites. The world does not refer to each and every person.
John 14:17 says: Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but ye know him; for he dwells with you and shall be in you.
The disciples see, the world does not see. Two groups thus the world cannot mean each and every person (also John 14:19, 22).
John 14:27 says: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Two groups, the disciples and the world are related according to peace. World cannot mean everybody.
John 16:20 says: Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
The disciples weep, the world rejoices. The world does not take into account the disciples. The world cannot mean each and every person.
John 17:9 says: I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou has given me; for they are thine.
Jesus identifies two groups. One he prays for, the other he does not pray for. The world cannot mean each and every person (also John 17:23,
