• Who is Hamlet? Hamlet is the son of King Hamlet of Denmark and the Queen of Denmark, Gertrude. Hamlet is the Prince of Denmark. His Father, the King, was poisoned by his brother, Claudius, so that Claudius could claim the throne. Claudius then married Gertrude only two months after her husband’s death. Hamlet did not approve of the hasty wedding and mourns his Father’s death for longer than Claudius thought was necessary as he stated in the play in Act 1 Scene 2 line 95. His grief “’Tis unmanly grief.” • What kind of a character is he? Hamlet is a multi-faceted character. He is an obsessive character, but also extremely loyal.
