An outsider is someone who is isolated or detached from the activities or concerns of one’s own community. (American Heritage Dictionary) It may come as a shock that there are people like this all over the world. In fact you may know some in your own life. Over the three stories there are examples in all of them. The idea of an outsider has been widely felt by many societies and countries around the world. Occasionally, there are things that cause there to be outsiders. One of those reasons is social status. Throughout the story the Doll House the Kelveys are a very poor family who almost no one wants to associate with. Purely based on the fact that they do not have as much money has the social status requires. Social status is huge in America …show more content…

Another way is one’s appearance. Just because someone does not look like you do or they stand out with their odd clothes. This can cause them to be looked at as an outsider. In the world today different races Urlaub 2 have distinct appearances. So a person with a different background goes somewhere they are not native from it makes them an outsider for being there. In the short story Encountering the Other, by Ryszard Kapuscinski, there is an excellent example of this. “A non-Chinese was regarded as the devil's spawn, or at best as a victim of fate who did not manage to be born Chinese. The other, according to this belief, was presented as a dog, as a rat, as a creeping reptile” (Kapuscinski 235). Just because someone is not Chinese they are an outsider, or the “devil's spawn” according to the Chinese customs. Ultimately, actions, actions are important in your view of someone. If someone does something ill-advised you are going to think of them as an unintelligent person. There is evidence to this claim in Franz Kafka’s the Metamorphosis “he especially liked hanging from the ceiling, it was completely different from lying on the floor.
