After reading the novel Twisted, written by Laurie Halse Anderson, I have become more aware of how different emotions and attitudes that people have can positively or negatively affect how they’re viewed by society. Furthermore, an individual’s attitudes and actions can also change their perspective of the world and the quality of their life. Early on in the book, we are introduced to the main character Tyler, who is an emotional, unpopular, and insecure seventeen year old senior who is hoping for things to change. Throughout the story, we follow his emotional rollercoaster filled with his thrilling highs and devastating lows. After researching astrology signs and their true meanings about specific traits, I have decided that Tyler fits within the Cancer symbol.

Through completed writing, the National Book Award finalist and Golden Kite Award winner, Laurie Anderson captures the thoughts of Melinda Sordino. After she gets raped and has to deal with a misunderstanding that leaves her silent and outcast. This short book of 224 pages is mostly written in short statements. From casual thoughts such as, “I zone out,” to ones with impact like, “Why go to school.”

People can learn to grow. People don’t stay the same for all of their life. They experience life to grow and change with it. In the book Speak the character Melinda was sexually assaulted and she had to learn how to grow and accept that it wasn't her fault. The people in her life also grew and changed for the better when they knew the real reason she called the cops on the party.
In the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, Melinda gives a really good example of character development throughout the story. Melinda just starts her freshman year at high school. Over the summer her and her friends went to a party and Melinda gets raped by a boy named Andy Evans and ends up calling the police, she didn't tell anyone why she called the police, causing her friends and everyone at the party to reject her. Melinda’s only friend is a new girl named heather. Melinda gets depressed and starts expressing her pain through stuff like biting her lips and her nails, and not talking.
There is a hidden message behind every book. Especial one called Speak written by Laurie hales Anderson it involves a girl named Melinda Sordino. Sordino is a freshman at Merryweather high school. She has been an outcast ever since a senior party in summer where she got raped by a senior named Andy Evans. After the incident, she called the cops who shut down the party, which leads to many people hating her including her own friends.

Melinda perpetually haunted by her treacherous past memories struggled to stay happy and sane throughout her overwhelming first year of high school. Melinda evolves over time as she longs to be her past happy self again she slowly but surely begins to regain her happiness and self-confidence. With life-changing events coming at Melinda every which way, she experiences the highs and the lows and finds little things in life like her extraordinary passion for art to help her get through the toughest times in her life. This story will make your heart melt with sorrow and compassion, but also bring to you a remarkable story with realistic like events and settings.
Speak Loneliness is very bad for you when you don’t talk to people. Loneliness is bad because you can’t talk to anybody about your problems. So, Melinda shuts out the world and becomes alone. Laurie Halse Anderson (author), the main plot for “Speak” is to speak up of what you did wrong. Loneliness is very bad when you can’t talk or speak to anybody because everyone is hating Melinda.
