The film, Over Canada, explores the 5 regions of the country: Atlantic Canada, Central Canada, the Prairies, the Territories, and the West Coast. Each region and province have characteristics and geographical features that make it unique. Atlantic Canada includes the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. Atlantic Canada is unique for its location by the Atlantic Ocean and together, the provinces form the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Some of the landforms found in this region include plenty of coastlines, low mountains, flat uplands, rocky cliffs, and many islands. The vegetation of Atlantic Canada include heavily forested areas with coniferous and deciduous trees. The Territories are unique for its location near the Arctic Ocean, and for containing Canada’s two largest lakes, Great Slave and Great Bear. Some landforms of this region include low rolling plains and broad plateaus. Temperatures can dip below -40℃ and much of the land is considered desert because there is no moisture or precipitation, which only a few types of plants of animals can survive in. The Yukon, known for its gold rush between 1896-1899, and sites such as Mount Logan. Most of the population of Yukon lives in the province’s capital of Whitehorse. The Northwest Territories are known for sites such as Nahanni National Park Reserve and Virginia Falls. Most of its population resides in the capital city of Yellowknife. Nunavut, the largest of the territories, is known for notable historic sites such as Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum and Frobisher Bay.
