1. The demographics of Overland High School includes families from more than 100 countries with 60 different languages. How will you provide support for our students and families? I am diverse individual and once I was a foreign student in this country. Through these experiences, I learned that the most important thing to support diverse students and their families is to make them feel welcome, understood, respected and cared for. I will strive to make all diverse students develop a sense of belonging to our school. Give an example of something that you created, developed and implemented in a school setting that impacted student achievement. Tell us how you planned, developed, and implemented your idea and how you know that your idea was successful? A few years ago, I developed a system that helped my Spanish class increase academic performance; I called it the soccer card system. The idea came from what I observed in my students and my cultural background. My students needed encouragement to speak Spanish in class and I wanted a better performance through a system that would be fun and effective for all. Being a former soccer player the card system became my first option. They system consists of three cards; two yellow and one red. Each card represents a warning to stop speaking English and it also means a deduction of points as a penalty for using English. I am usually willing to take the first one back in exchange for a fun phrase in Spanish, considering their language development, but the second and thirds are not taken back and if received, points are lost. Those students who do not speak Spanish at all during class will not get any points for the day. Students are responsible for speaking enough Spanish so it is clear to me that they are using Spanish in class. No matter how broken their Spanish is, what earns them points is the attempt and encourage to try to communicate in
