Railroads is also the key to Seattle's success. For instance, they helped to link Seattle to the coal mines East and South of Lake Washington and to farms in Eastern Washington. Moreover, during the 1890s and 1900s, when gold was found around Yukon and Alaska, railroads would ensure that Seattle became the metropolis for those hinterlands, although its connections to the North were made by sea rather than by
Central Pacific Railroad started from San Francisco, and used Chinese laborers for their work, pushing through the Sierra Nevada mountains. In 1867, to encourage quick progression, Congress deemed the land remaining between the two companies, which was the Utah plains, to be paid at mountain rate. This motivated the Union Pacific crew to lay 360 miles of track, and the Central Pacific crew to lay 425 miles of track within the year (Stockwell, 2011). Unfortunately, this hasty pace came at a cost.
The railroad was vital in the setting of the west for the American people. The Pacific Railway Act gave the American people a much easier way of travel to the east. This made it more likely for large families to participate in the expansion due to the lack of hardship that many encountered during the Oregon Trail. The Act gave the Union Pacific Railroad the expansion from Nebraska west, while the Central Pacific Railroad moved from California east. Thus, the first railroad was completed when the two companies finally connected in Promontory Point, Utah in spring 1869.
Introduction Understanding the different reasonings why David Pietersz DeVries opposed the New Netherland Governor Willem Kieft’s tactics is vital because it allows us to understand the mindset of the people in the 17th century and why they did the things they did. DeVries’ document, “Voyages from Holland to America”, also gives people insight on the Governor’s senseless massacre of the Indian people in 1643. David DeVries was born in the early 1590s in Rochelle, France. He emigrated from France to New Netherland and became a patroon.
There were more and more people moved westward after the discovery of gold in California in 1849. In 1845, the New York entrepreneur Asa Whitney proposed in Congress to raise funds to build railroad. However,
In 1694, Thomas Savery invented what would revolutionize the united states indefinitely, he called it the steam engine. This invention lead to the first steam engine locomotive which many would say was a beneficial turning point in the industrialization of america’s economy, allowing the steam engine to be used on the railways. Although the railroads did impact the United States and certain groups in positive ways, there were also negative effects that occurred. During this time period, there were many chinese immigrants that entered the United States who made up most of the workers that built the tracks.
First Transcontinental Road is Built The first transcontinental road was a length of 1,776 miles. The transcontinental road was built in 1860 and finished on May 10, 1869. This was one of America’s greatest inventions that had brought many successes to America, however there were difficulties along the way, such as Native American tribes being moved due to the transcontinental road invading their land. In this paper I am going to tell you about the invention that was so important to America in the 19th century.

This will tell you about some of the important parts of the westward expansion. Gold Rush: The gold rush started in January 1848 in the city of Coloma California when a man named James Wilson Marshall found gold flakes in the American River at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The discovery of gold at Sutter’s Mill, California, in 1848 was the cause of mass Chinese immigration that would last for decades to come. When James Marshall discovered gold in 1848, there were fifty-four recorded Chinese in California, this number quickly rose to 116,000 by 1876. Title (Chinese Immigration During the Gold Rush: The American Encounter) The California Gold Rush allowed for immigrants, such as the Chinese, to encounter the various beliefs and suspicions of the American society.
Stagecoaches and Turnpikes; Traveling Through Connecticut Setting the Scene Before the groundbreaking invention of stage coaches and turnpikes, people had to travel in harsh road conditions in a private carriage or even by horseback, which was very costly and many people did not own these means of transportation. Turnpikes had first appeared in the 1700’s where businesses had privately funded these new roads. Running all across Connecticut, these Turnpikes became beneficial to many as they helped import/export good to far away locations. Private carriages and horseback were used for transport on turnpikes until a man by the name of Levi Pease brought the idea of stage coaches to New England. This unbeatable duo was the start of something extraordinary.

Christopher Columbus and his crew experienced the dangerous journey to the new world with their three ships. This is one of the most important themes that the new settlers could document. A second part the journey was finally arriving on land an making contact with the Native American tribes that lived there. Native Americans were a topic that was arguably more important than say the new goods and diseases they took back with them to Europe.
