Chang 1 Cristy Chang Ms Karen Rutledge English 12 19 May 2017 Overpopulation Overpopulation is an undesirable condition where the number of human on Earth exceeds the capacity that the Earth can bear (What is Overpopulation). Since the time of the Bubonic Plague in the 1400’s, the population has been growth constantly (What is Overpopulation). Overpopulation now is becoming the world’s top environmental issue, followed closely by species extinction, climate change and lack of freshwater. Firstly, overpopulation can led to species extinction. Humans now are causing the greatest species extinction since the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago at rates 1000 to 10,000 times faster than normal (Effects of Human Overpopulation), and we are now losing 30,000 species …show more content…
More people means more demand for oil, gas, coal and other fuels mined or drilled from below the Earth’s surface that. when it burned, it will release carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere to trap warm air inside like a greenhouse (Scientific American). Many people now are trying to reduce their carbon footprint through less consumption and better technology, but the human overpopulation are making these efforts overwhelming (Human Population Growth and Climatae Change). According to 2009 study of the relationship between population growth and global warming, only one child can produce 20 times more greenhouse gases than a person try to save by many ways such as recycling, use bicycles, using energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs (Scientific American). “Population, global warming and consumption patterns are inextricably linked in their collective global environmental impact,” reports the Global Population and Environment Program at the non-profit Sierra Club. As developing countries’ contribution to global emissions grows, human overpopulation will become one of the key factors that cause global warming (Scientific
