Overview of Profession: Healthcare Administration Management
The profession that I would like to pursue is in the general field of healthcare administration and management. I am interested in ultimately becoming a Director of Healthcare Education, specifically Allied Health Education. Allied Health Education has a “focus on practical skills with intensive hands-on training, geared to acquiring the expertise, confidence and professionalism necessary to respond to true-life situations” (“About Us” 2016, para. 6). I may benefit from getting certifications from the Center for Allied Health Education (CAHE). “CAHE's students benefit from a full and varied curriculum with both didactic and skills experience components. I need to work on coming out of my shell and becoming more assertive and outgoing in professional settings. However, once I get past my introverted qualities, I do possess strong leadership skills and the ability to get others to follow my lead and work as a team. In addition, I have been told that I have a very likeable personality so my interpersonal skills will be an asset in terms of interacting with colleagues as well as managing employees. In addition, my natural qualities as a charismatic, likeable leader will be a great asset in terms of my ambition to become a Director of Allied Health Education or Dean
The skills necessary for the career I choose to pursue are being an effective team leader and being a good communicator and expressing myself clearly. The skills I already have that will support my career pursuits are my on-the-job experience as a medical assistant working for internal medicine physician and obstetrician-gynecologist doctors as well as my previous experience with teaching medical assistant program courses.
