Buttercup is the main character; she is seen as the prettiest women in all of the land and is the main desire of Westley. She is set to become Princess to Prince Humperdinck, although she doesn’t truly love him. She loves Westley, however Prince Humperdinck can provide her with security.
Westley is seen as the main protagonist because he represents Buttercups “hero” in the story, by saving her from any dangers. He starts out as Buttercups farm boy, but then leaves and to pursue a fortune, however during his adventure he …show more content…

Prince Humperdinck is soon to be married to Buttercup, however he doesn’t actually care for her. He only wishes to gain personal needs from her and then murder her after the marriage.
Count Rugen is Prince Humperdinck’s right hand man and loves torturing for fun; he tries to get rid of Westley, and anyone else that gets in his way. It’s learned that he also killed Inigo’s father at a previous time, therefore having rivalry with Inigo.

For example, Westley represents the real prince in the novel; even so, he’s not the prefect prince type. He runs off to pursue a fortune, is presumed dead, and has a real struggling time to save Buttercup. Even once the book ends William Goldman says that they lived happily, but not perfectly. I think while Westley symbolizes the hero that every girl wants to have in her life; he is the more realistic version of that, because even the greatest hero wont be perfect, although that’s usually how it’s portrayed to
