I would like to address some very important issues that effect us not only as individuals, but also as a nation. In addition, many of these issues pertain our health and our nations well being. That is about 45 million Americans who need our help. 21.1% of the children in America are in poverty and also desperately needing our immediate help. I have been the Oxfam Ambassador since the year 2007. Oxfam America is a charity which works to put an end to poverty, human rights, suffering and injustice. By doing charity work and helping out others not only here in America but also around the world we demonstrate to the world the strong nation we are. And that is one of the things we should prove to the world. That together we can. I have done charity work here in the United States as well as around the world. As a result of one of these tours to India I decided that helping those who needed me the most were more important that the Oscars. In 2007 I ended up skipping the Oscars. When traveling to places with poverty "vanity is the last thing on your mind when you are traveling in a place like this" (Johansson). Study shows that in these past years only 42.3% of young adults between the ages of 25 through 34 had at least an associates degree. On one of many charity trips with the Oxfam program I visited a school. Upon visiting the school and getting to know the amazing boys and girls who were now given the opportunity to receive an education, I realized "how vital education is" (Johansson). To add to that, I grew up in an economically unstable home where my father barely made enough to get by. My family and I moved about every year until finally we settled in a housing development which was for lower income families. My four other siblings and I went to public schools like many other children in our community. We depended on programs for school transport and school lunches just like many of our friends did as well. Until this day, many of my high school friends depend on Medicaid as well as other health care services. I know many can relate to the situation my family and I were found years ago. Fifty seven Housing Units, like the ones where I once lived with my family, are also available for families with low incomes. There are many families which are in the verge of being homeless and if it wasn't for these housing units they would not be able to have a place to call
