Ozzy Osbourne was born in the United Kingdom. Ozzy Osbourne is rock's beloved Prince of Darkness, a key architect of heavy metal, and one of the most successful solo artists ever (Mwilkening 1). Ozzy had a lot of controversy throughout his career. He has struggled and overcome alcoholism. He was accused of promoting suicide with his song "Suicide Solution" in the 1980s, and Christian groups have said his music glorifies Satanism. In 1985, he was hit with a lawsuit. A depressed 19-year-old boy took his own life allegedly after listening to “Suicide Solution”. Ozzy faced controversy for years about the suicide situation with John. John was already a saddened and depressed teenager (History). Ozzy is one of the greats and parents need to keep their kids safe from doing things they are not supposed to. In the article Ultimate Classic Rock, it states “John Daniel McCollum shot and killed himself on Oct. 26, 1984, while lying on his bed listening to an Ozzy Osbourne record at his home in Indio, Calif” (Mwilkening 1). After John's parents found out that their son was listening to Ozzy's music, they sued him. The parents said Ozzy’s song “Suicide Solution” was the cause of their son's death (Mwilkening 1). “A California court dismissed the McCollums’ lawsuit in 1988, ruling that John’s suicide was not a foreseeable result of Osbourne’s song” (History). The court was correct, millions of people have listened to Ozzy’s “Suicide Solution” song and not killed themselves. John just happened to listen to Ozzy’s song in the wrong place at the wrong time. John was in bed listening to Ozzy’s new song. John was already depressed and when he heard Ozzy’s song he took it the wrong way and took his own life. His addiction impacted how he performed in the band. He ruined many different relationships due to his addiction. Ozzy has been open about his addiction his whole life.
