The PA Code of Professional Practice and Conduct for educators affects me as an educator by giving me a set standard as to what a highly qualified person in the teaching profession should abide by daily. In the PA Code teachers are expected to give each student the highest quality of service, continue learning with professional development, and remain professional in all aspects of your life (in / outside of school) with parents, faculty, and students. With all of these requirements in mind as an educator I know what is expected of me in the future. This code holds me liable in all aspects of the teaching profession. Each code provided guidelines of how to present myself to parents. I will need to be friendly, inviting, and encouraging to provide ample opportunities for families to feel comfortable enough to volunteer in the room. The codes also each discussed the importance of respecting student diversity. It is up to me to meet the needs of each of my students and their learning styles. In order to do this each code also mentioned the need for continuing of education and professional development, so I am able to better meet my students and have more inventive ideas to continue to grow as an educator. The codes affect me outside of school, because I still need to be professional. I will never know who may be watching me, and I wouldn’t want anyone to gain the wrong idea about my personality, appearance, or demeanor to then view me in an unprofessional light, thus not respecting me as an educator. Reading these codes made me realize that the way others view me says a lot about the kind of teacher I will be.
