What is animal cruelty really defined as? These days it is hard to know what anything really is, because everyone puts their own twist on everything. Animal cruelty is a very broad term now a days. According to an organization called PETA, fishing is animal cruelty and is extremely harmful to fish and aquatic animals. I don’t think PETA realizes that more fish and aquatic animals are harmed by dumb humans causing oil spills and dumping garbage than every fisherman in the world could do combined. PETA believes fishing is cruel to the fish, bad for the environment, and psychologically damages kids. Animal cruelty is blown out of proportion all the time. There are people in this world that say punishing a dog for bad behavior is cruel, but it really is not. Punishing the dog is simply teaching it what it did wrong so it doesn’t do it again. If the dog does something wrong and is not punished for it, then the dog thinks it is ok to keep doing it. If this is considered animal cruelty and you do not punish the pet, then it is going to control you and take control of your life. What most people don’t know is that all fishing products made now are biodegradable. This means that line, hooks, and other baits wither away over time in the water and if a fish manages to get ahold of one, they will be able to digest it like anything else they eat. This information proves that another one of PETA’s crazy remarks is also false. If fishing tackle was not biodegradable, then I would be able to understand PETA’s point, but it is. With that being said, PETA has absolutely confused me and is making me think I might need to contemplate all my life decisions. Not really, I will fish till the day I can no longer hold a rod in my hand and even then I will encourage everyone to get outside and make some
