Program Description A DNP PMHNP ran private practice with a mission to improve the well-being of individuals through ensuring the receive compassionate, evidenced based mental healthcare through direct treatment, education and consulting. The practice will serve primarily healthcare workers and first responders to address the mental health needs through the use of therapy and medication management as appropriate. Additionally, the PMHNP will provide consultation and educational sessions to health systems and the community to improve evidence based psychiatric nursing practice. The direct care component of the practice will serve individuals age eighteen and older with mental health complaints for both short and long-term therapy and/or medication management. While any individual looking for assistance managing their mental health issues will be served, the focus of the practice will be healthcare workers and first responders as they face a disproportionate amount of trauma exposure as a result of their work and can be challenged in finding practitioners who are able to effectively meet their needs. As the PMHNP has extensive experience addressing trauma exposure in healthcare as well working with law enforcement, she is well suited to partner with these individuals in improving their health and well-being. Areas of clinical specialization of the PMHNP include trauma exposure disorders, addiction, anxiety and mood disorders. Therapeutic modalities utilized with clients will include health education, mindfulness and relaxation, motivational interviewing (MI), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and medication management including buprenorphine for opioid addiction. While most client services will be provided in person, telepsychiatry will be utilized as well to provide services to established clients when they are unable to be seen in person. After the practice is established, the PMHNP plans to expand the practice to include one day a week coverage in Lincoln County, Oregon. Consulting and educational services offered will include: professional presentations and mental health education for providers, health systems and the community; supervision and mentorship for nurses and nursing students; legal consultation and expert witness testimony;
