Founded in 1967, United Way of Regina is dedicated to improving lives and building its community by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action. The organization funds services and programs dealing with issues related to children, poverty and health in Regina. Its current focus is the promotion of learning and development opportunities for children. United Way of Regina raises funds primarily through the annual Community Campaign, which includes donations from company payrolls, corporations and individuals. It has a call line called 211-Saskatchewan in collaboration with the United Way of Saskatoon and Area to provide information on over 5,000 community, health, and government services in the area.
The identified selected funding agency that has been identified is the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation (http://hjweinbergfoundation.org/program-areas/older-adults/) (http://hjweinbergfoundation.org/grants/). I modified the grant as a result of search because this foundation provides money for seniors and veterans. This grant proposal will be written to support two identified vulnerable populations the Foundation has determined as underserved. This will make this grant stand out to the funders and evidence its uniqueness by demonstrating the goals and objectives outlined by the Foundation, inclusive of two underserved populations.
In “Its Portion Distortion That Makes America Fat” by Brownlee, she claims that fast food companies and the portions they provide are the real reason that America has seen such a big increase in obesity. I agree that fast food companies are to blame for the rise in obesity and they should begin to take more responsibility for the affect they have had on America. In the not too distant past, fast food portions were smaller and could actually be seen as a suitable meal as they provided enough calories for one person. This all began to change when a man named Elliot Bloom began to study Taco Bell’s sales and discovered that their main consumers consisted of “young, single males who could ate at such restaurants as often as 20 times a month.”
It encourages cooperation and team-work. It allows children whom are more reclusive to move forward through sound participation. The organization I picked for my Interview paper was the First Capital Federal Credit Union. The credit union is a non-profit organization, in the public sector. The credit union solely operates on the benefits of its members. The credit union was originally established as the S. In "Nine Powerful Practices", Ruby Payne submits that she has developed prescriptive interventions essential to increasing educational success for financially challenged students. She asserts school children from families lacking academic teaching have not learned acceptable ways to conduct themselves, converse, or learn in a defined educational setting, Payne identified nine interventions to assist educators in supporting students from families stricken with financial hardship to increase their instructional prosperity through the gift of education. The Terry Fox Foundation (TFF) is an organization founded in 1980 after Terry Fox, a 20-year old patient with bone cancer, ran his Marathon of Hope 5300 km across Canada to raise awareness and money for cancer research. Terry ran “simply to remind Canadians of the importance of finding a cure” (The Terry Fox Foundation ) The TFF holds an annual run in Terry’s name to fundraise for cancer research and bring the visions/values of their organization to life. The TFF believes it is important to tell Terry’s story, and show how one hard working Canadian can make a difference by standing up and doing what they believe in. Since 1980, the TFF has raised over $700 million in Terry’s name and has generously donated it all to cancer research.
With these funds the program is able to benefit not only children, but the families and community involved. The program is led by Servant Leader Interns, who work with the children to boost reading scores while also fostering a love for learning and emotional support. In the after-school program students receive one healthy snack and in the summer program the children are provided with 2 meals and one healthy snack. I would like to congratulate the Woodson Foundation, the schools district, and the NCPIE for attempting to address this problem in the Washington, D.C school district. This is a very important issue and need the upmost effort put forward. This group is past the first stage which is forming stage, the purpose of the group has been established. In this respect the group should know this and not revisit the purpose of the task they agreed to take on.
Teachers can also learn about a childs’ experience and offer help and attention. Literacy is very important in every aspect of a person’s life, a teacher in the foundation phase should emphasize this and help their skills and literacies develop
