The Performing Right Society commonly known as PRS for Music, was formed in 1914 by a group of music publishers who help provide an income for composers, songwriters and music publishers. The Performing Right Society is a professional organization that can safeguard and insure the income for many different composers, songwriters and music publishers that join in order to receive an income for their work. PRS for music can therefore pay royalties to the artist when their work is performed in any format that is broadcasted, as the artist is entitled to a fair payment for the use of their work ''When the music plays, somebody gets paid''. The main purpose of MCPS is to collect and distribute mechanical royalties to the artist whenever it's reproduced as a physical product such as records CDs and online downloads. MCPS can insure the safeguard of income with the right licenses as without owning them it's copyright infringement and are legally entitled to pay a fee, by owning both these licenses every artist, composer and music publisher are entitled to a fair payment. The royalties that PRS can provide differs from what MCPS can provide as with MCPS they can insure royalties when an artist's work is reproduced as a physical product whereas PRS can only provide royalties to the artist whenever it's performed either as a live performance to the public or through a shop, club, or company.
