Colombian drug lord Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria’s drive and ruthlessness made him one of the richest and most violent criminals of all time. A drug trafficker who eventually restrained over 80 percent of the cocaine being shipped to the U.S., thus earning him the title of one of Forbes Magazine’s 10 wealthiest people in the world. Early 1970’s Escobar entered into the cocaine trade, joining others like him to form structure and make about the Medellin Cartel. Gaining support from his community and others around him by using his money to sponsor charities and team clubs. Later on that support dwindled as Escobar reined murder on those who were against him. Escobar’s father was a farmer and his mother was an elementary school teacher. Escobar was raised in the suburbs of Envigado where he would tell his friends and family of how he would someday become the president of Columbia. As a teen, his criminal activities started to make way. Legends have said that Pablo would steal tombstones, sandblast the names off, and resell them. From that Pablo went on to stealing cars and for a short period of time he studied at the Latin American Autonomous University. In the 1970’s is when Escobar found his way into the drug universe leading him to power and wealth. Pablo would purchase coca paste in Bolivia and Peru where he would refine it to sell in the U.S. In the early 70’s Escobar kidnapped a Medellin executive to earn a quick $100,000. These were only minuscule crimes that could not measure up to what Pablo Escobar would soon eventually be.
