19 Feb. 2017 Menace to Society Pablo Escobar was loved by some hated by many others. Pablo was also more than just a drug dealer to build the most powerful and destructive kingpin in Medellin. Pablo had to become a leader. To some, he was considered a God and others a destructive psychotic homicidal maniac. The views on Pablo are varied, but one must agree that he knew a thing about being a leader. His unprecedented rise to success was more about money and personal gain it was a political issue the man loved and wanted power. In his rise to power, Pablo Escobar used Machiavellian and Lao Tzu tactics and ideology by doing what he felt was necessary, evoking fear in people while being loved. He once was a little boy born in the rural area of Columbia having next to nothing. Pablo did not want to be poor his whole life he wanted more. He started stealing cars at a young age then he moved onto bigger and worse things. He eventually graduated to drugs and having his empire. “By the mid-80s Pablo’s empire controlled 80% of the drugs supplied to the united states”(Pablo Escobar Biography). He rose to this power by doing what he felt was necessary and eliminating threats as he seen them. Pablo Escobar wanted to become President of Columbia, but when his business transactions created an ethical flag, he unleashed a killing spree. He was also not a supporter of extradition. Pablo Escobar was loved by his hometown people dearly. To some, he was seen as the equivalent of God. One has to understand that this love from these people was conditional. Pablo Escobar gave back to his community. There have been numerous occasions where Pablo Escobar was seen going to poor neighborhoods with bags full of millions of dollars. The thought of this is baffling because in today’s society one could not do this without fearing for their life. These people respected what he came from and what he gave to them mainly. Also, the person who worked for him were instant millionaires in the course of night. He turned these people from rags to riches. Along with this love came fear. People understood what the man was capable of after his extradition tirade. They know that Pablo would not only kill but also torture a man’s family. The alliance Pablo built with these people was unbreakable. Most know of the consequences that would happen if betrayal was to happen. One was to think if the love he received was because people were scared what would happen if they did not love him. This is where Pablo started to get in trouble when he became despised.
