Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria was born December 1, 1949 in Antioquia, Colombia.He grew up in a middle class family with a father who worked as a peasant farmer and a mother who worked as a school teacher (Pablo Escobar Biography). Escobar married a fifteen year old named Maria Victoria Henao in 1976 who later birthed him two children a son, Juan Pablo Escobar, and a daughter, Manuela. Escobar started his criminal behavior by stealing cars and graduated to drug trafficking later. His rise to power began when in 1975 he ordered the murder of a local Medellín drug lord named Fabio Restrepo. Escobar along with other criminals of his time went on to create the Medellin Cartel. This cartel was ruthless and aided in these hits he ordered as well as assisted in his drug trafficking. Eventually, he earned a spot on Forbes Magazine’s list of the ten wealthiest people in the world with an estimated net worth of thirty billion. Eventually, the United States wanted to extradite Escobar due to his drug trafficking and bringing the drugs into the United States, Escobar used all his resources such as power, money, and terror, to convince the Colombian government to allow him to turn himself in to them and serve a five-year jail term. Escobar convinced the Colombian government to prevent him from being extradited and to allow him to serve his prison sentence in a prison that he ah built for himself. The prison, La Catedral, was almost like a resort with a Jacuzzi, a waterfall, a full bar and a soccer field and guards that Escobar selected himself. Escobar was the only prisoner at La Catedral andran his drug empire from it's
