Although most of the black opponents hated Laettner, they respected his game and tenacity. The third pain point mentioned is that Laettner was a bully. I felt that was not a resolution for this issue because I think people have a right to not like Laettner because he was a bully. Laettner said that he would do anything differently as an athlete at Duke.
The Civil Rights Movement was just starting to really spur up when Earl Lloyd was drafted into the NBA. Lloyd faced many problems from discrimination, to not being able to eat or sleep in the same place, even just playing basketball focused. Racial slurs were thrown at him on and off the court. Earl Lloyd persevered on and made a social impact on how black and whites could come together. Charles Barkley had many statements about this.
In his autobiography, Robinson discussed some of the obstacles and difficulties he faced in this turning point in his life. Because he was black, Robinson was not immediately accepted by the team. However, this was minor compared to the resentment he experienced from “players on other teams, by the team owners, or by bigoted fans screaming ‘n-----.’” (Robinson).
During that time period of the 1960’s, that was never heard of but, Texas Western decided to change the face of the game. According to utep.com (2009), “Haskins became the first coach ever to start a lineup of five black players at a major college level.” Which is one of the many reasons Coach Haskins is so special because during a time period of racial tension, with him being a white man, he risked his life and family protecting his African American basketball players from hateful crimes, which not many coaches would have

When the draft lottery came around the New Orleans Hornets landed the number one pick and were granted the rights to draft Anthony Davis.

The bucks went 27-55 and didn’t even make a run at making the playoffs in the season before, after they got Ferdinand they improved to 56-26 and made it to the division finals before losing to the knicks. One season after he was drafted he took the bucks to the best record in the nba 66-16, and a nba championship. Alcindor won mvp of the regular season and of the finals that year. Racism is a part of American history that can never be forgotten; a dark past that shows the constant mistreatment of African-Americans. Although African-Americans were freed from slavery in the 1860’s, discrimination continues to be seen today.
