Pacific Lutheran University’s mission to engage students in diversity, justice, and sustainability through academics and service activities lines up with my life in multiple ways. Having grown up in the church, I firmly believe that God has placed us on earth to honor and glorify Him using the gifts and talents He has provided us. My goal in attending PLU is that it would supplement my aspiration to connect and reach out to my community while strengthening my foundation in Christ. Part of what I seek in trying to reach out to my community is diversity. As a Christian, the most fundamental aspect of diversity has been learning how to be set apart in my beliefs. As Christ calls us in Romans 12:2 to: “not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,” so my goal is to daily seek beliefs and habits that are less of the world and for my own benefit, and instead for the world and my community. I understand what it is like to not be able to perform in activities that you love, and how it feels to be broken and unable to undertake anything without assistance. My experiences have humbled me, taught me to lean more fully on Christ's envisage for my life, and opened my heart to those around me. While the illness that I have is incurable, I desire to be able to refine people’s lives in my community through encouragement, example, and the fight that I have. Each day the aspects of diversity, justice, and sustainability play into my life through being treated differently because of my disease, discovering my limitations and how to serve those around me despite it, and through seeking daily ways to unabatedly persevere. PLU will mold my growth in character as I reach for my goals and move towards aiding a greater extent of people in my life and
