Whether you know it or not, many big name Hollywood movies are influenced by popular Japanese animes. Inception, The Matrix, The Lion King, Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Black Swan are all notable examples of this. There is one movie in particular, with many striking similarities shared with a widely popular anime: Pacific Rim. Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the most popular animes to ever be created; it was created in the 90’s while Pacific Rim was only brought into the light in 2013. With Neon Genesis Evangelion’s modern popularity still existing, it is only natural that big name movies will try to retell Evangelion’s story. Ayanami Rei from Neon Genesis Evangelion has a bob-like haircut that is light blue in color. Mako Mori from Pacific Rim has blue tint through her hair, which is styled and cut the same as Rei’s. Mako and Rei have a father-daughter relationship with the head commander in each respective movie, even though no blood is shared between the two. Asuka Langley Soryu is the third main character in Neon Genesis Evangelion. Asuka is very outspoken with her emotions unlike Rei. Asuka falls into a deep depression at the memory of the suicide of her mother, which prevents her from piloting her Eva. Although Pacific Rim does not have a carbon-copy of Asuka, Asuka bares characteristics closest to Mako. Mako shows a vivid range of emotions and also has a traumatic experience that prevents her from piloting her Jaeger when she flashbacks to her younger self being attacked by a Kaiju.
Kaiju and Angels both come in a new and diverse form each time. The Kaiju from Pacific Rim have blue colored blood. The Angels from Neon Genesis Evangelion can be identified before coming into physical combat, and with a simple scan. If the monitor reads “Blood Pattern Type: Blue”, they know an Angel is
