Although you are hurting, you must persevere through pain. I know two people who did just that. Buck is transported away from all he knows in The Call of the Wild and gets beaten, overworked, but not broken. Buck made it through all the pain. Although Buck has had a horrific experience, my sister had a less severe one. In contrast, Buck’s was harsher, but you can find the similarities between my sister getting a foot injury and having trouble pole vaulting, and Buck being beaten with a club. They both experienced strenuous pain and they thought they would have to quit, but they pushed through and turned out unbroken and full of hope. He gets beaten when trying to fight the man in the Red Sweater, who taught him the law of Club and Fang, which is a law on how to survive, and watches a dog die in front of him. Buck is also starved when with Perrault and Francois because he gets small rations with the food he eats. He learns he has to fend off dogs for his food, he also becomes sneaky and cunning by stealing food from Perrault and Francois and blaming another dog for his own felony. Buck is even overworked by a Scottish man, and sold to a new group, that can’t get organized. He receives beatings from this new and inexperienced group, named Hal, Charles, and Mercedes and when almost beaten to death gets saved by John Thornton. To start off, my sister ended up getting Plantar Fasciitis. This is much like how Buck was abused, starved, and overworked, but not as severe. However, they both ended up getting saved by something or someone. For my sister, it was the heel cups that made it less painful for her to run. It was John Thornton who saved Buck from a near death experience. They both experienced love as a result of these tragic events. My sister qualified for the national meet in pole vault and realized that is what she truly loves, this is what she really wants to do now. Likewise, Buck grew a great love for John Thornton after growing close to him and serving him. He would never leave him behind until he died and would protect him no matter the cause. Buck even bit a man’s throat for John Thornton. Even though Buck had to deal with much more tragedy than my sister, they can still compare and had to deal with similar troubles and
