The company I chose was Panera Bread. Panera Bread is a US based café-bakery style restaurant that serves fresh baked goods, soups, sandwiches, and salads. They also added several pasta dishes to their menu as well. There are over 1,900 bakery-cafés in the US and Canada. Panera Bread bakes bread from fresh dough daily and is committed to using high quality ingredients. By the end of 2016, their plan is to only use clean ingredients that are free of artificial additives, sweeteners, or flavors. Panera Bread has a wide range of menu items that cater to their customers. They offer several menu items for those that are vegetarian/vegan. They also have items that are gluten free, protein-rich, and/or contain complex carbohydrates. Panera bread also has a “Transparent Menu” that includes caloric information for each menu item. They are also committed to providing information that informs the customer of what is in their food as well as where their food comes from. Both the chicken and turkey used at Panera Bread are vegetarian fed, cage-free, and free of antibiotics. The pork is also antibiotic free and the beef is grass fed. Panera Bread also expanded to include a line of products, “Panera at Home”, that are available at select retailers. They also have several donation programs and charities in place to help fight hunger. Panera Bread works with “Feeding America”, which is the nation’s largest food bank, to help feed members of the community. Panera Cares is an initiative in which customers give donations to help fight hunger. Half of the proceeds from Panera Cares are used to supply soup (the same soup served in restaurants) to local food banks, pantries, and soup kitchens.
