The key factors that lead to his violent lifestyle were having an abusive, alcoholic father, being forced to believe all women were prostitutes (meaning sex was bad unless it was to have children), and being isolated from everything starting at a young age. Gein’s close bond with his mother is a form of his social and personal attachment that was developed as a child. “Social and Personality Development: Attachment-- emotional bond between infant and caregiver.” Gein being the unsub showed aggression and sympathy in his murders. His first victim Bernice Worden died a quick death after being shot. Her early death was a sign of sympathy because he saved her from the aggressive mutilations he did to her corpse. He showed sympathy to avoid the pain just like when he was a child he avoided his father for being abusive. The aggression showed in Bernice’s murder could be a form of anger relating to his father.
