“The Murder House”
Late at night on June 9 or early morning on June 10, 1912 a family of 8 was murdered in Villisca, Iowa. When the family was asleep, the killer used an axe to decapitate the family. The murder was never solved. The victims were Herman Moore age 11, Katherine Moore age 10, The Stillinger sisters, Lena age 12 and Ina age 8, which were Katherine’s best friends, Boyd Moore age 7, Paul Moore age 5, and the parents, Josiah and Sarah Moore. The Moores always woke up early to get chores done. There neighbor, Mary Peckham, went outside to hang laundry and she noticed the Morres hadn't been outside to feed their chickens or do any other chores. She suspected something. Mary went to the Moore’s house to see what was going; she knocked on the door. There was no response, and the door was locked. Those windows were covered with the Moore’s clothing. All of the victims faces were covered with the blankets after they were killed. A lamp was found at the foot of the bed of Josiah and Sarah. The chimney was off and the wick had been turned back. The chimney was found under the dresser; a lamp that was similar to the lamp found in Josiah and Sarah’s room was found at the foot of the bed of the Stillinger girls, the chimney was also off. The axe was found in the room that Lena And Ina were staying in. It was bloody but the murderer attempted wipe it off. The axe was Josiah Moore’s. The ceilings room showed gouge marks made by the upswing of the axe. There was a pan of bloody water on the kitchen table as well as a plate of uneaten food. All the doors were
