Have you ever wanted to create your own path, but no one understands what you're trying to do? The book Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler, is about a young girl named Lauren, who wants to start her own community and share her ideas. Then there's her younger brother Keith who is the total opposite person, but also wants to live a different lifestyle. Lauren and Keith both show agency by leaving their families behind and starting new lives, to create their own paths in two different ways. She grew up in such a tight community, but once that community was destroyed, Lauren could create her own path and her own community. Lauren could finally start something new. An example of this is when Lauren says, “I'd like to draw him into earthseed I'd like to draw them all in they could be the beginning of an earth seed Community I would love to teach Dominic or as he grows up I would teach him and he would teach me” (pg 221).
