John Milton, in his epic poem, Paradise Lost constructs a narrative that highlights the power struggle between God and Satan and incorporates tyrannical principles to further the misinterpreted absolutist nature of God. Thus, it is crucial to acknowledge that God does not posses humanly qualities, but rather embodies a spiritual deity that constantly demonstrates an omniscient perspective. Milton presents God in such a way, where there is a sense of inconsistency in determining whether the actions God can be classified as tyrannical or the issues reside in humankind in its inability to fully decipher God and his intentions. However, God reminds us that he has not created mankind for the reason of personal gain, but rather to give freedom of will and choices that ultimately contribute to the outcome of their fates. The concept of free will allows for people to take their fates in their own hands, as God has already established the idea of punishment once rules or laws are broken. God adopts an indirect persona when dealing with mankind, and allows for people to make their own decisions. God states, “So were created, nor can justly accuse their maker or their making or their fate, As if predestination overruled… their will disposed by absolute decree or high foreknowledge. This epitomizes that idea that God has not created humankind to be mere puppets, but rather take responsibilities for their own action.
