In Lauren Oyler’s article “The Case for Semicolons”, she persuasively argues the merit and use of semicolons in a time where the grammatical symbol of punctuation is used sparingly by the literary community and broader public by extension. Oyler accomplishes this by successfully integrating various rhetorical strategies and modes of thought to appeal to her audience. Likewise, Oyler attempts to further her argument first by providing a personal experience from her own life, and how the philosophy she gathered from it could be applied to the semicolon. From there on, Oyler argues that the semicolons’ ambiguity and flexibility make them useful for setting near any tone one desires. Oyler concludes her article by arguing that the semicolon asserts

In The Glass Castle, Rosemary and Rex Walls display a very uninvolved parenting style due to the many occasions they have neglected their children’s’ needs and put them in harm’s way. Some of the signs of an uninvolved parent are when they neglect their children’s personal needs, lack of communication and do not have very many demands. (Cherry, The Four Styles of Parenting.) The Walls children are always and have always looked after themselves and found ways to survive. The kids are always hungry and in constant need of food, but they are left to fend for themselves.

In contrast, in Tortilla’s Sun in paragraph 18 it states that the daughter has to move to New Mexico for the summer while the mom finishes school. In paragraph 46 she gets upset and storms to her room and she gets her dads baseball and this means that she misses him and needs him. In the story the Confetti Girl the main point
The article also uses the technique of similes to influence the reader. Cusk uses the simile, 'like a spurned lover continuing to send flowers when the recipients affections moved elsewhere,' to refer to the way her daughter and her daughters friends talk about their mothers as if they are worthless and beneath consideration. Cusk uses this simile to create better imagery of the disrespectful attitudes of teenage girls, thus making it easier for the reader to understand the situation. The simile 'as if they were trying on a pair of shoes that were slightly too big for them,” is also used in the article extract, and refers to the matter in which the girls talk about their Fathers.
Just remember that I wouldn’t hurt you for nothing in this world. You just going to have to get used to me. And we got all the time in the world'…I held on to him, in an agony; there was nothing else in the world to hold on to” in this passage we receive an intimate look and example of Fonny and Tish’s love (Baldwin 78). In this scene we receive an intimate look at the relationship between Tish and Fonny. The way we see Fonny care for Tish both physically and emotionally in this scene and throughout the book really forges the quality of relationship that they have.

For example, the opening first story explains her desire to eat American food instead of Indian food. She describes how the children at school have tuna salad sandwiches her mother doesn’t know how to make it nor does she really care for the food. Describing her desire for American food foreshadows to the relationship between her parents and even her culture. Constantly wanting American food while she grows up creates a disconnection in her relationship with her
Poe is often known for his dark, sometimes twisted short stories and poems. “The Masque of the Red Death” is no exception. In this short story, Poe creates and eerie and ominous mood by using a wide variety of literary techniques including imagery, diction, and syntax. Prohibition in Wyoming: A Failure From the Start Tiffany Hatch Northwest College HIST 1251 Dr. Amy L. McKinney May 8th, 2023 There was a time when Wyoming banned the manufacture, sale, and transportation of liquor, which was met with opposition from many people who believed it was an affront to individual liberties. An example of said controversy over prohibition was known as the temperance movement; it was a group that campaigned for the prohibition of alcohol and was the largest opponent for those against it. These girls are at the ages from 9 to 11 and at a young age their goal in life is to run away from their home. In this song, Ludacris try to bring a message to the listeners by trying to get people to realize the struggle that children have to face. Even Senators and Presidents put their personal feuds above what they believe is right. After WWI, President Woodrow Wilson went to Paris to create the Treaty of Versailles, which included the League of Nations. The Treaty needed two thirds vote of the Senate to vote in favor to be ratified. America had an isolationist past and the Senate was divided into the internationalists, led by Wilson, who were in favor of the League of Nations as proposed, the reservationists, led by Senator Lodge, who wanted a treaty of some type but wanted some changes, and the irreconcilables, led by Senator Borah, who were completely opposed to the Treaty and wanted to remain isolated. Even though the Senate refused to work towards a compromise, it was Wilson’s fault the Treaty was not ratified
This quotes shows that the citizens’ emotions are affected by the child’s neglect. Omelas is suppose to be a society where citizens show no sympathy because it would jeopardize their freedom and lifestyle. The basement where the child resides frightens the citizens because it symbolizes how the society could be despondent, so they allow the child to be the scapegoat. I believe the title, The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas, is significant because it expresses people that are not satisfied in Omelas walk away to find their pure happiness. Le Guin does a great job influencing her readers into thinking that receiving happiness through others is not worth it.
In contrast, “See You Again” highlights the exaltation that comes with hope, and how it can turn a dark situation into a lighter one. Not only this, but the artists focus much more on reuniting with lost friends. This isn’t shown in the other piece, as Margot never truly has the opportunity to do this. Wiz Khalifa states, “How could we not talk about family when family's all that we got? Everything I went through you were standing there by my side.
