Out of the many themes in the play Antigone, we chose the theme of parent’s beliefs vs. child’s beliefs. In Antigone, the theme of parent’s beliefs vs. child’s beliefs became apparent to the audience when Haemon and his father, Kreon argued about Kreon’s decision regarding the punishment of Antigone. Antigone has just disobeyed Kreon’s laws and buried her brother. In the play, Haemon believes that “no country belongs to one man” (Sophocles 50).
