Flannery O 'Connor in the story of Parker 's Back, shows many symbols in reference to the Old Testament, one of them is the name of Parker, Obadiah Elihue. Scholars consider that Parker 's identity is changed by the acceptation of his name in some of his talks with Sarah Ruth. However, this transformation goes beyond a persuasive discourse of Sarah Ruth, it implies the grace of God manifesting in the Parker´s weakness. One argument in favor of the persuasive talk of Sarah Ruth is proposed by Andre Bleikasten, who was Professor of American Literature at the University of Strasbourg, France.
