Parks and Recreation Mission Statement: To provide quality and affordable parks and recreation facilities and programs for youth, special populations and adults throughout Fayetteville and Cumberland County; and to improve City appearance and provide quality maintenance to City owned buildings and facilities. The Parks and recreation association is an advocacy and nonprofit organization that is aimed to provide support to the communities. The goal for professionals within the organization is to advance parks, provide safe community based recreation, and provide resources that support all persons young or old. Parks and recreation develop professionals who organize and run programs that benefits basic human needs, physical and mental health. Parks and Recreation provide physical activity programs, nutrition programs, as well as fundraising and scholarships foundations. About 1 in 5 (21%) adults meet the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines. Studies show the positive impacts that physical activity can have on obesity, decreasing risk of chronic diseases, boosting immune system and increasing life expectancy. (CDC, 2017). Mental health disorders have caused major health burdens that lead to hospitalization and even disability. Participating in recreational activities can contribute to lowering depression, and stress while increasing self-esteem.
