The Postmodernist period was a time for writers to express themselves by using certain literary movements. Writers of the postmodernist time didn't have a label on their writing. In fact,during the mid to late 20th century that's when it the the period started to developed. Also, many writers during the postmodernism time period used a lot of symbol writing. In an analysis of Octavia Butler’s short stories and poems Parable of the Sower, Speech Sounds, and Child in each of us it’s evident in her writing that she uses elements of Parody and Irony are demonstrated.There are many ways to become a great writer and convey a great message to your audience. “ Parody, irony, and narrative instability often inform the tone”. (Butler 31).The main character kills the person who was attacking the mother. So eventually he gets shot by Rye,and since the mother and the killer is dead Rye ends up taking care of the kids.Who would have thought that irony can shape a writer's short works from great to excellent and learn in the process?In the short story “Speech Sounds” by Octavia Butler she knows shows the consequence of when you do harm to people. She makes it evident that don't treat people bad because it come back to you.. And the people that are affected by your actions.“ It’s alright.” “You're going with us,too. Come on” (Octavia Butler.)In this quote it talks about a women who helped a mother who was getting attacked. Eventually,the main character Rye ends up taking her children,because she ends up getting shot.It's ironic because it shows that reader that anything can happen at any given moment. Also, the Rye is a younger women so it’s ironic that she has two little children to take care of. Butler wrote in a time period where her work was considered meaningful and different. Authors would showcase many ideas through their writing by including important details that mean the total opposite.The postmodernist time was when Butler used many examples of Parody and Irony to convey her messages through her writing. Many times Butler used Irony to showcase a bigger for an abstract meaning for
