Evans The Parthenon and the Gate of Ishtar The Parthenon is an Ancient Greek temple that has been considered a great illustration of the Ideal Classical architectural construction. This opinion is given because for the Classical Greek period, art, symmetry and balance were essential , which is easily observed in the structure of this temple. The Parthenon, as said before, is a Doric temple located in Athens, Greece, the Acropolis of Athens and is dedicated to Athena, the goddess of war and wisdom. This magnificent structure is composed of an East Pediment, a West Pediment and the Metopes. After this victories and new empire, they decided to build the Parthenon. This temple also reflected part of the ideal for the Greeks at the time, which was achieving true perfection, power and status. The Athenians also had Athena depicted as fierce and brave in battle, something that appealed greatly to Greeks since they further related that logic to that “ she only took part in wars that defended the state from outside forces, allowing the celebration of that ever-strengthening polis within Greek culture.” (Allison, 2015). Even when the Parthenon is a temple and the Ishtar Gate is a literal gate, they both have painted a story. In my case, artistical and architecturally, I prefer the Parthenon, because of all the stories that it carries about how Athena and how she helped them win all those wars, including the Persian wars. I see how the Parthenon seems solely honoring Athena, meanwhile the Ishtar Gate, although dedicated mostly to Ishtar, it also renders honor to other gods like Marduk and Adad through the paintings of the animals. In my culture, the persons that are not atheist, believe in only one god, that last one myself included, therefore I consider that we don’t have the struggle of choosing or being chosen by a “great
