Patagonia, Inc. is a privately held company that offers apparel for the frequent outdoorsman and outdoorswoman. Founded by Yvon Chouinard in 1973, Patagonia started by strictly providing climbing gear. However, after some time, the company decided to take on sports apparel as a separate venture. With its headquarters located in Ventura, California, the company now has accumulated to "53 Patagonia-owned stores worldwide" (The Cleanest Line). With the company continuing to grow, Patagonia, Inc. has found success in providing a sports wear that is applicable to outdoor activities while remaining eco-friendly in the process. According to the case analysis, Patagonia: A Sustainable Outlook on Business, "Patagonia uses a number of more environmentally friendlier fibers, like organic cottons, recycled polyester and nylon, chlorine free wool and hemp for the production of a number of its products" (5).By recycling the raw materials to make the clothes, Patagonia is reducing the size of their carbon footprint. Additionally, the case analysis goes on to say, "Patagonia offers to repair products for free if it appears that Patagonia is responsible for the need. If not, Patagonia offers to repair the product at a 'fair price...'" Patagonia remains to be a sustainable business as the company places large emphasis on educating its customers. With the practice in place, Patagonia shows customers that there is no need to throw out any products that may seem 'damaged.'
