Tell us about a time when you received performance feedback from your supervisor or criticism from a college professor that was unexpected. What was your response and what did you learn about yourself in this situation? In my first semester at Grand Canyon University I was enrolled in both pathophysiology and in anatomy and physiology at the same time. The first day of class my pathophysiology professor made an announcement that if anyone was taking anatomy and physiology at the same time as pathophysiology, they needed to drop his class. After class I approached him and told him I was taking both. He scoffed at me and told me that I would fail both classes. What are some of the reasons you are applying to this program? I want to spend my career providing care for underserved communities. The time I have spent with the Native Americans of the Gila River Indian Community has been the most professionally rewarding of my career. I enjoy their culture and their sense of community. It is gratifying to know I am working in a community where a real difference can be made. I believe Augsburg College will best help me reach my career goals. I firmly believe it is essential to treat the whole person to make a long term difference in their health and in their lives. As a scribe, I have seen numerous instances in which it is crucial for the providers on the reservation to be aware of the patient’s cultural, spiritual and living situations to help the patient comply with their healthcare plan. There are countless barriers such as mistrust of modern medicine, transportation issues, and difficult living conditions. I have been moved by the compassion and consideration the providers have for each patient’s personal needs. I want to have this same connection as a physician
