The documentary, The Hunting Ground by Kirby Dick, was created specifically to spread awareness of the vast problem of sexual assault on college campuses and to attempt to show that the dilemma needs to be solved. The creator wants the viewer to know that the dilemma of these attacks that universities tried to hide in the dark is finally being given the spotlight they deserve. The spark of this idea for this documentary was the many stories of survivors across the nation from many universities, specifically the story of Annie and Andrea who helped other survivors get the justice they deserve. A specific variety of story that was used can be labeled as a reiteration of a similar idea, where lines in different accounts of survivors that had common aspects were played back to back. This happens in a multitude of places throughout the documentary, including a part during the documentary where multiple incidents of victim blaming were repeated (9:46-12:05) and where many girls repeat how they were raped at fraternities (58:47-1:05:55). In both of these clips, a piece of different girls’ stories were shown back to back. For example, one girl says how she experienced victim blaming by being told that “it was her fault because she was drinking”(9:46-12:05). Then the film cuts to a different survivor where she explains how she experienced victim blaming through “being asked repeatedly how often and how forcefully she said no and if she thought the guy who raped her understood she didn’t want to have sex” (9:46-12:05). Among those tactics, a continuous story, repetition stories, and percents, numbers, and facts were used to present the purpose, all of which are effective in their own manner. These accounts made the problem real and gave a personal connection as well as structure to the documentary and the percents, numbers, and facts all gave the information to back up the claims made in the documentary. The Hunting Ground was a well put together documentary that proves how immense the dilemma is and that there are options one can take to solve the epidemic that has spread all over the
