On September 11, 2001 four planes were hijacked. Two planes were flown in the World Trade Towers, one was flown into the United States Pentagon, and the other plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. The attack left America in shock. The war on terror began (9-11 Americans at war) The laws and regulations that have been passed as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 have been helpful to American society because America is less vulnerable to terrorist’s attacks. There have been several Acts passed including the Patriot Act, The Foreign Intelligence and Surveillance Act (FISA), and the Aviation and Transportation Security Act. All of these acts have been successful in preventing terrorist attacks. They are used to gain knowledge of terrorist organization and stop attacks before the plans can be executed. The Patriot Act was formally called the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001. It was signed into legislation on October 26, 2001. The act allowed law enforcement to use surveillance on suspected terrorists. The information obtained could be shared with security agencies and led to the seizure of financial assets of terrorist organizations (Americans at War).
