The war on terror – prompted by the 9/11 terrorist attacks – has resulted in the change in law enforcement in concern for nation’s safety and privacy. The USA Patriot Act was the first legislation in the awake of 9/11. Forty-five days after the September 11, terrorist attacks on the United States, Congress passed the USA Patriot Act also known as the “Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism.” The purpose of this act is found in its full name. It was created with the decent intention of finding and prosecuting international terrorists operating on the land of America and secure our nation from future terrorist attacks. After 9/11, the war on terrorism was on full swing and without proper legislation America would be in serious danger of future attacks. The Patriot act acts as a warning for terrorists; if the person knows what the act entails, they are less likely to plan or involved in any act of terrorism. For example, The Lackawanna Six Plot in 2002. “As the first anniversary of the September 11 attacks drew closer, America was on high alert. It appeared her enemies — Islamic fundamentalists bent on destruction — were gearing up for something” al-Bakri and his allies were planning for a terrorist attack similar to 9/11. “The FBI had been listening to al-Bakri's phone calls and tracking his emails. The phone call fit neatly into a perceived pattern of events. The FBI had worked up a list of potential targets in the days leading up to the anniversary. Attacks on military bases in the Middle East were at the top of the list, and Mukhtar's phone call seemed like a break, a clue amid an ocean of information pouring into the American intelligence community.” (Temple-Raston). After the FBI caught him, al-Bakri felt guilt of his act. Certain provision of the patriot act sharing information, have saved this land from another 9/11
